# About

The Dabba Network is a **De**centralised **P**hysical **I**nfrastructure **N**etwork that is building high speed wireless networks from the ground up in India. We enable humans & machines with internet connectivity at a price that they can afford.

The inspiration for Wifi Dabba came from the founders working together for the last decade in the mobile application industry and realising the biggest reason for user churn being access to cheap and affordable internet access. From having worked on ground onboarding users and facing poor connectivity issues all the time, we took it on ourselves to fix the internet access problem for the masses.

Our deployment solution is building a grid of lasers (Free Space Optics) over the cities & town and bring cheap and fast internet for everyone. We enable anyone to buy 1 gig of data access at a time at a price they can afford. Sachetization of internet access is the foundation to rebuilding internet for all. We do this by leveraging blockchain and asset tokenisation to truly make internet infrastructure ownership distributed — our vision is to be connectivity layer for the Web3 world.

# Our Philosophy

We believe that internet & WiFi is a fundamental utility - like electricity and water.

Internet infrastructure is vital, enabling the flow of information, communication, and commerce that drive the economy. Without reliable and efficient internet infrastructure, access to the wide array of online services, resources, and applications that are essential to daily life would be difficult or impossible.

Over the years we’ve identified to raise the ceiling for all of us at Dabba in ensuring that we hire colleagues with an abundant level of resilience and empathy. These traits define who we are and kind of culture we wish to continue embracing at our organisation.

> One of the unique aspects about our culture is that it combines our engineering, warehouse, and QA lab verticals. As a vertically integrated business, it’s invaluable for employees to work from the same office space where our products are developed, tested and shipped to customers.

# Hiring process

We aim to to acquire evidence as to whether Dabba is a strong match — culturally and functionally — given your experience, ambitions, and working style. We have a simple process to evaluate compatibility.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Introductory call" %}
The interview process begins with 30 minutes introductory call with one of the member of our team. Purpose of this conversation is to understand your motivations and to get a feel for how your experience shapes your approach and mindset. We also want to introduce you to Dabba, share details about how we operate, and describe some of the projects we’re working on.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Assignment" %}
Writing is central to how we operate. The discipline of writing instills rigor and care into how we build the business. To gain an informed view of one’s writing, we generally ask candidates to share a writing sample and/or to complete a take-home exercise.\
\
For engineering candidates, the take-home involves writing code (and some documentation), whereas non-engineering candidates may be asked to write a memo.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="In person office meet " %}
We invite you to visit our office in Bangalore and spend 2-3 hours & have the opportunity to meet with individuals in similar roles, cross-functional colleagues, and to spend more time with the recruiter and hiring manager. You get to understand our work mindset while we figure out if you have the qualities to be a compatible colleague.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Founder's meet" %}
Our founders, Karam Lakshman and Shubhendu Sharma, care deeply about hiring at Dabba. They make a point of meeting with every candidate as the final step of the hiring process.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

Unlike traditional internet solutions, Dabba's approach is vertically-integrated across engineering and operations. We design and manufacture our own hardware, develop the entire software stack, and manage our users’ network.

We are looking for people who are excited to work on complex problems, enjoy learning and working with others, and above all, are resilient and empathic. Join & help us build something amazing together for the next billion users.

### About the role

As a member of embedded platform team your goal is to:

* Build the hardware systems that create the physical foundation of Dabba.
* Build the operating systems that run on that hardware.
* Write the WiFi and networking firmware and drivers.
* Monitor how our hardware behaves and performs for continuous improvements.

Fundamentally, you will provide the state-of-the-art foundation on which the rest of Dabba's product is built. We leverage existing Open Source Software whenever possible. Our users are both internal and external; in addition to our customers, we must consider the engineers who build on top of our platforms and the Operations Team that installs, monitors, and uses our devices.

On any given project, you might debug new hardware, adjust the C-based firmware, write a new Linux driver, create a test framework, prototype APIs for Backend Engineers, and then wrap it up in a well-designed build system.

### Technology Stack

We use Linux, OpenWRT, Buildroot, C, Python, make and Bash. We work on a variety of architectures, including: ARM, ath79 and x86-64. Currently, we work with QCA WiFi chips. Prospective team members must be flexible and able to learn new technologies, chips, and architectures.

Other software team at Dabba use technologies like MERN, Postgres, and AWS. Having a knowledge of these and/or similar technologies, while not mandatory, will make it easier to work with other teams and provide the platforms they need.

### You might be a good fit if

* You believe in continual improvement of a product with a strong history of releases.

* You have successfully upstreamed a patch to the Linux kernel, OpenWRT, Buildroot, or any other major project.
* You understand HostAPD, Portal, RADIUS, AAA, Identity and role management, Radsec
* Tunnels, Firewall, Iptables, Flow Classification, QoS, TLS, DTLS are your companions
* You have used a schematic, a datasheet, and a header file to determine and fix an error.
* You enjoy converting decimal to hex to binary.
* When you encounter a long list of magic incantations to build an image, you redesign the build system so all you have to do is type make.
* You have implemented a network protocol from the RFC or official specification.
* You add test cases to frameworks because of a known bug.
* You improve documentation instead of simply complaining that it is bad.
* You are thoughtful and measured in your approach to solving problems.
* You like to make LEDs blink. And you know both how and why they do.

### If you are interested in joining us

We encourage you to reach out even if your experience doesn't precisely match this job description. We operate with a growth mindset and expect ourselves and our colleagues to have the capacity and desire for ongoing growth.
